Founded in January 2001, SAS Investors was formed to facilitate the creation and growth of seed- and early-stage technology companies in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island). Located in New York City and backed by Canaan
Partners, Rho Capital Partners, and Sevin Rosen Funds, three of the country's largest and most prominent venture capital firms, SAS Investors is positioned as one of the region's leading backers and builders of core technology companies.
Targeting unique, defensible technology ventures, SAS Investors leverages its broad-based experience, resources, financial commitment, and the active involvement of its Venture Capital Partners, to assist portfolio companies in creating the go-to-market strategies necessary for rapid success.
SAS Investors spends the time necessary to understand industry dynamics to formulate optimal market entry strategies, to complement the founding team's management capabilities, and leverages fully the potential of a company's intellectual property. This allows SAS Investors to thoroughly evaluate, value, and help direct each company in which it invests.
SAS Investors' Managing Partners, George Abraham and Josh Grotstein, and Partner Ramana Jampala, capitalize on their many years of management, investing and technology experience to accelerate the growth of each portfolio company. They have served in senior executive positions for companies such as Citigroup, NBC, Prodigy, Ajax Capital, Zurich Payroll Solutions, Trajectory Consulting, and Viant, and have worked in various capacities for other major corporations including Rockwell, Richard Eisner & Co., McKinsey, Chase HQ, and J. Walter Thompson. All three have substantial experience starting new companies, specifically founding or playing an integral part in the creation and initial management of Ajax Capital, Brience, CNBC, e-Citi, NBC Online Ventures, NYC2008 (now NYC2012), the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL franchise), Prodigy Internet and Zurich Payroll Solutions.
SAS Investors has raised an initial $40-million-dollar fund for the selection and development of seed- and early-stage technology companies in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The fund invests in seed-stage opportunities and early-stage ventures (typically "A-round"), and also offers co-location services for selected portfolio companies.
